Making a Lifestyle Change

I saw this quote in a daily email from Runner’s World, and it really resonated with me. In the beginning, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to stick with running. It would be something that I did for awhile, but eventually moved on from. I feared that if I ever deviated from my schedule, all would be lost. If I took a break, I would lose my momentum and eventually my drive. As time went on, running became more and more a part of my routine. Before I knew it, running became a regular staple in my life. Now, I run in the cold, I run in the rain, I run when I am tired, and I run even on days when I don’t feel like it. It has become such an automatic part of my life.

As most people would say, running changes your lifestyle. It changes when I go to bed, it changes what I eat, and it changes who I interact with. In my opinion, these have all been positive changes. I am by no means perfect, and I certainly have my fair share of unhealthy indulgences, but I am doing my best to maintain a decent level of fitness.

These past four weeks, I have been participating in Elf4Health. It is a committee to stay healthy for one month by participating in different challenges. Participating in this challenge has led me to meet some amazing people and also learn some valuable lessons. Being healthy means a lot of different things. It means exercising and eating healthy, but also taking care of your social emotional well-being. This includes volunteering, giving to charity, making time for friends, mediating, and much more. These are lessons I am going to continue working on. This holiday, take the time to take care of yourself. That is the greatest gift of all.

  1. Some days I worry about not being able to stick with running but can’t really picture myself not running. For me it also changed what I ate, how much rest I get and the people I surround myself with.

  2. You are so right about the meaning of being healthy! I run, run, and run, but my emotional health and nutrition tend to suffer, it’s good to be reminded of the entire pie that is health =)
